Background of the Study
Job rotation, a human resource management strategy, involves periodically shifting employees across different roles within an organization. It is often used to enhance employee skills, prevent job monotony, and boost motivation. Research suggests that job rotation can improve employee engagement, increase knowledge diversity, and enhance career development opportunities (Adebayo & Usman, 2024). However, if not properly implemented, job rotation can also cause stress and role confusion (Obi & Salami, 2023).
Dangote Cement Plc, a major player in Nigeria’s manufacturing sector, employs job rotation practices to optimize workforce capabilities. The company aims to use job rotation to enhance employee motivation, improve job satisfaction, and strengthen operational efficiency. However, there is limited empirical evidence on the actual effects of job rotation on employee motivation in the company’s Plateau State branch.
Statement of the Problem
Despite the growing adoption of job rotation, its impact on employee motivation remains debated. Some employees find job rotation beneficial for skill development, while others experience stress due to frequent job transitions (Okafor & Adeola, 2024).
